I received a notice about this which was very interesting. They seemed to have reverse engineered a Tytera MD380 handheld Ham radio transceiver. It has a STM32F405. Also seems to find it capable of more features. It will be interesting to see what comes of it.

Thanks Michael

I noticed that article as well.

I find the STM32 and also the STM8 are quite widely used in Chinese made electronics.

Its handy that some people have time to reverse engineer these devices, and IMHO it will lead to more sales of these devices for the manufacturer.

I have Ham radio licence, but I have so many other calls on my time and finances, I’m not sure I will be rushing out to buy one of those transceivers :-(

I’m in the same boat. Thought I’d share for others that might be interested. It is nice to see the STM32 used in a lot of areas and lots of interests. I’m planning on using them in several of my ham radio projects I have going.

I’m just having fun tinkering in electronics again. I was away from it many years and forgot how much I enjoyed it. Stocking up on parts as I go. Some projects are waiting on pieces here and there.

Long time ham too.
You guys likely know of the $35 UHF and VHF radios from baofeng…

The only rig I have that transmits is an old Kenwood TS50 with matching ATU.

And I have a hand held Yupiteru 7100 (again, quite old)

I have messed around with SDR using one of those TV dongles and it works quite well, but not very sensitive

I’m now hoping to use the TV dongle + SDR to do some packet sniffing of Bluetooth, as I bought a satellite TV down converter, as described in this article

http://blog.cyberexplorer.me/2014/01/sn … 1-and.html

However, I have not had time to make the cables needed to connect the down converter to the TV dongle and fire it up so see what the 2.4ghz band looks like in technicolor ;-)

I think the converter has standard satellite F connectors, but Im not sure what the small connectors on the Tv dongle are.

I guess I should figure out what plugs are needed and see if I can order an adaptor cable on eBay, as i agree it would be the cheapest and easiest way, if someone makes one.

Does it look like this:

This is a SMX connector.

Yes.

I’m not sure. I think so.

I can’t find my original eBay purchase, but I’m pretty sure this is the one I have

PS. I don’t know if its much good, but it does work with the various SDR software e.g SDR#

I have pretty much the same one:

Here is the cable I got:

It is MCX connector.
