i know i have an orange block of a dvm with thick red and black leads and probes; 3″x2″x9″ somewhere

went looking, what i thought was the dvm was in fact the handle of my diving knife which i use for filleting, it’s also honestly paper cut lethal and very flexible. it’s only you see red you twig it.
found my el cheapo from aliexpress dvm, but the leads elude me. of course finding the leads means i find my orange brick
i know where i last spotted it and it’s not there

at school i once spent 2hrs in a english exam trying to spell bump, but it just didn’t look right.
yesterday or the day before talking to someone also early retired before i couldn’t remember the site i used to work at on retirement, had to work it out from the main one going east.
in 1985 had an accident meaning i have some facial scars, 6hrs in theatre, woke after 3.5days and total was 10 days in hospital. oddly i sliced the inflatable part of the tube they insert, 3 of them with a broken front tooth on insertion.
in 33 yrs no one has actually asked me about them, that was a first; you get/feel adverted glances, my normal response if any is i headbutted a mini(car) or i wrote a mini off with my head.
i was a typical spotty teenager; strange thing is my attitude regarding them comes from someone i met at uni, never really saw hers after the first word – light bulb, more like multiple searchlights.

OMG .. I can relate … these days, I do not even go to the basement lab before I get the 1st cup of coffee in my system.

Yesterday, I lost my favorite screwdriver. … I was so frustrated that I wasted 4 hours looking for it, on-and-off, but I could not concentrate on anything else.

Today, it was on the bench… I must have looked at it ten times yesterday, but the neurons did not fire! Crazy. My personal explanation is that it was on the desk but hidden by a dimensional abnomaly.

i tend to leave pairs of 3.0 reading spectacles everywhere and currently there should be a half dozen or so within arms reach. used to be they were 1.25’s.
even then on the login screen without specs, i can ‘see’ enough to tab to user, and again to password.
just done so and now i’m looking for my specs without a pair of specs on … … …
coffee – oh please 2 sugars, 1.25 of coffee and semi-milk to neck of spoon; the .25 is awkward without specs though :)
curiously as i tend to leave my coffee to cool, one of those lidded insulated cups, i now quite like cold coffee when i can find it, if it’s not curdled.

I’ve read this thread at least 4 times, took a while to get it. I need more specs to find my specs. Took 15 minutes searching everythere to find they were just in the middle of the desk in front of me. I’m also at 3.0, need me some of them binocular glasses the jewellers wear.

binocular specs, i’ve both the spectacle frame with multiple lens and the headband sort with hinged lens.

i most definitely prefer the headband, now at least 2 pairs. take with the little eye glass, subject to breaking off, hence the 2nd pair.
the frame based pair are somewhere in here and istr are still in their box.
they would not stay on, oh btw buy specs with distinct bend to the ears, the fashion type with almost straight arms keep sliding off.
remember cricket catch practise frames, trying to hit the far edge to make it hard on those on other side of the frame, i now have a catch glasses reflex, awkward with feline in arms.

these ‘reading’ spectacles have plastic lens and overnight seem to develop a layer which has a blurring or dirty lens requiring cleaning.

oh big tip – don’t use glass lens spectacles riding a motorbike, my helmet got rotated forehead to chin as i hit a car, the broken lens, think knife/scalpel did quite a bit of damage.

seeing i’ve currently ‘lost’ my main kindle in this room, i nodded off to sleep and its sleepwalked off somewhere. so i started using the oasis. originally it annoyed the heck out of me.
actually i’m beginning to think it’s a rather ergonomic design. you almost shake it as if it’s a hand.
use with either hand, simply rotate it, in one hand, little finger slightly curved to rest under bottom edge, the thick edge block fits into first 3 fingers and held to the pad of thumb, button function easy to thumb, not quite sure but i think the button switch functions flip to up/down to down/up in the other hand.
i ‘suggested’ to amazon that perhaps they could add a whistle back function to kindle c.f. key fobs
extreme version – alexa where’s my kindle? :P

can you be off topic in off topic?

Until I read your ramblings, I would have said, “No”, but now I would answer in the affirmative.

ramblings
now normally on recumbent trike, before trike it was boots over lake district and some closer bumps in the landscape to the east. west would involve me swimming, however 50mls south and then west is snowdonia, much bigger bumps :D

first time i went to the lakes, first hike out was over a bump only 1000ft, had four little bump around rather swampy area, oh yes, visibility maybe 20ft, not sure if fog, mist or cloud.
only time i’ve been ‘lost’, took me 2hrs to find the path off.

since then i expect to know my location with just os map and compass to within about 5m, 10m is distressing. did the courses to qualify as a summer guide.

My mother usually has a large collection of reading glasses, as she frequently misplaces them. It used to be that they would be literally in every room of the house.

My parents also used to have a housekeeper who would come clean once a week, and she would tidy away anything left out. I was a bit like Mom, but with a variety of things that would be restricted to my room and the living room.

You might guess where we’re going with these fairly unrelated subjects.

A few years ago, I went to move out. While I was getting my stuff together, I found a drawer organizer basket containing no less than 10 pairs of my mother’s reading glasses. I had 2 pairs of glasses of my own, which I miraculously kept put up and never lost, so I’m not sure why I became a glasses repository. I still have 1 pair of mine, the other I ended up throwing away due to scratches.

do you find that overnight they seem to acquire a film on the lens and needing a wipe off?
allergic to air?

Slightly disturbingly I’m having a recursive amnesia moment. I was reading this and trying to remember what it was that I couldn’t remember what I’d done with recently.

As to the reading glasses. I have a bunch of those cheap ones from the pound shops scattered liberally around the place, so I can use them to find my “good” pair. There is also a pair in the car, and one in the small rucksack that I take to the office. Speaking of which, I did recently head all the way in to the office (a journey of about an hour by car), only to discover that I’d forgotten to take the keys, and nobody else was in. Nothing for it, but to head back home, pick up the keys and head back in again.

… ah.. yes, the thing I lost.. now I remember. It was a greetings card, that I was going to write, but my chain of thought was interrupted, and I absent mindedly set it down on one of our many bookshelves, whereupon it magically camouflaged itself, such that I was able to check the shelves about a dozen times without spotting it. I chanced upon it the following morning when looking for something else entirely.

It took me a little over a year to find my spool of RadioShack rosin-core solder, which had fallen into the box of new parts for my fiance’s E39 (which I still need to install). Speaking of which, his lighting control module took on some water that had dripped down inside when the sunroof drains clogged. It looks like a capacitor as the lone victim, but I have yet to desolder it to test since I have no idea what its needed specs are beyond the capacitance.
